London in 52 hours
A couple weeks ago I was able to sneak away and take a quick trip over to London. Seeing as many sights from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon was probably a little more ambitious than necessary, but I’m always up for a challenge. I had no clue of what I’d see, except the Tate Modern museum and a palace or two, but I knew it would be pretty special. Little did I know, it would be just what I needed.
Temporarily living in France, I knew I had to take advantage of being so close to a couple places on my bucket list. London was one of my top places so a weekend there was definitely a must. Sightseeing, meeting new people and long followed Twitter friends and eating good food made it an unforgettable trip. And who doesn’t want to walk through a palace and pretend you live there?
If you happen to be in London, other than what’s on every “weekend in London” list, you must see the Princess Diana exhibit in the Kensington Palace and the Tate Modern museum. Sure, the Kensington Palace is on most lists, but it’s on mine specifically to highlight the ‘Diana: Her Fashion Story’ exhibition.
Walking through a palace is a dream in and of itself. Seeing an icon’s clothing and notes about the reason why she wore them and the story behind them is pretty amazing. I won’t give it all away, but if you thought you couldn’t love Princess Di anymore than you already do, go and see just how wrong you were. Haha, but no, she was amazing. Go and revel in all the fashion greatness and history.
Now, as far as museums go, the Tate Modern museum was my favorite. Sorry, British Museum stans, but I’m more of an art nerd than history. British Museum was a dream, but the Tate Modern fed my soul in a way I could never have expected. I would’ve spent the whole day in the bookstore alone if I didn’t have so many other sights to pack into the weekend.
No matter what you do before you leave, I recommend just walking through the city and taking in anything that catches your eye. The most fun things are local pop ups or street markets that won’t necessarily show up on the map. So put on your walking shoes and enjoy the city. There’s something special around (almost) every corner.
If you’re looking to do something similar, here’s most of that I did with rough time estimates:
Friday:
Arrival 11:30a
British museum 12:30p
Check into hotel 3:00p
Walk along boardwalk to get to Kensington Palace and memorial fountain
Take in the garden outside the palace 3:45p
Almost dinner at Sky Garden that ended with Whiskey, Prosecco and chicken nuggets. I’ll save that story for another day 7:45p
Saturday:
Buckingham palace 9a
Tate modern 10:30a
Flat iron square market 1p
London Bridge 2p
Tower bridge 2:45p
London Eye 3:30p
Dinner at Dishoon Kensington 6p
Drinks in Camden after dinner
Sunday:
Kingdom hall meeting 10a
Exhibit at the National Poetry Library 1:30p
Time to say goodbye 4:30p
London was good to me. Then I had to take a nap, and dream of when I’ll come back. Til next time, xx.
Happy reading,
